-My long-time and short-time crushes both have girlfriends.
-Any attractive possible male suitor never actually sees me, let alone as possible dating material
-Both ex-boyfriends already have valentines.
 
Obviously love has never been my forte.
I wait, and am left waiting.
I swing, and I miss.
I try to come back, but the other players have moved on to a new game.

I loved dancing. Especially choreographing danced in my head.
 
I thought about the last time I danced. I was still living in Haiti. With my grandmother...
 
I lowered my head and wiped away the tear I knew was coming.

5 days, 18 hours and 27 minutes.
That is how long I have been at the academy and I still felt so out of place. It should have been the perfect fit for me. Expensive, elite school; France; meets my standard of extracurriculars and academia. But I still felt raw. Exposed.
It wasn't even like I was not used to the country. French was my first language, and then Creole and English. I have been living here ever since the earthquake back in Jacmel and my family is a mere two hours away.
 
I shook it off and took another sip of my tea. I have to focus on the positives, I told myself. Everything will feel right with a little time.
 
My phone rang and Simone's picture appeared in the caller ID.
 
"Didn't you call me, like two hours ago?" I said into the receiver.
 
"Ouais, but you didn't pick up. Mama is worried about you. She said you didn't feel...settled when she called you yesterday." Simone replied.
 
"You'd think she was a telekinetic."
 
"No, just worried. How have you been. Really?"
 
"Okay, I guess." I sighed. "I just need a little more time to...get comfortable."
 
"Just let me know if you need company. Pierre is coming back from India Friday morning so we could go get some croque-monsieur when you get out of class." Simone said.
 
"Thanks, but I think I should force myself to stay on campus a little while longer. Get used to the atmosphere, tu sait?" I said.
 
"D'accord. T'parlera plus tard." Simone replied.

"D'accord. Je t'aime."
 
I pressed "End" and got up, leaving my payment for the tea under the saucer.
 
Back to the dorms I go, praying that the feeling of normality will soon return.

I couldn't fit this in the parents description, but my father is a famous music producer and my mother is a Fashion Styler/Editor for Vogue France.
I have an older brother (Pierre modeled by Mehcad Brooks) and older sister (Simone modeled by Corinne Bailey Rae).
